Connect the USB cable (Camera, to USB 2.0 port, on the computer)ģ. Set your camera to MTP mode, from your cameras menu.

wp-content/uploads/2008/02/tether.zipīefore you go changing folder names (in the script), gphoto2 should already be installed. You have to use restraint (a lot) for maximal (like none other), wide-spread stability. Do not use 10.10 as your production, stable system. We have, about another month before I'd touch 10.10, unless you want to test (WAIT, to at least Feb 2011!). 10.04(2010_April), is the Long Term Support (LTS) version. I like an EXTREMELY HIGH stability, and (not tiered) options level, for any computing avenue, that I may need to travel. DO NOT, get the latest 10.10(2010_October) version, as it is NOT extremely stable yet (for all). Only one Ubuntu, but do use Ubuntu 10.04 right now. There's so MANY, confusing Windows versions, you know.

While any "distribution" can work, just Install Ubuntu. You might be able to pull this off from a Live CD, without even installing Linux. (FREE CAMERA CONTROL)ĭon't forget to do your backups, on anything you can't live without! Always have two backups, on two different media. Why over complicate things, with Microsoft Windows?. I had the same message on my WinXP SP3, but changing the USB Mode in the camera did the trick.Īll the camera setting being right, I had to update the driver according to Ian.L's suggestion and it worked! Thanks (Running win7 home premium on an Asus machine) I'm now using a D40 with Windows 7 on a Dell notebook. Still getting the message "NO CAMERA WAS CONECTED. I've tried everything you guys said, but. Has anyone else tried this with Windows 7 RC? After changing the USB mode, I plugged my camera in, and Vista installed the drivers and Camera Control worked like a charm. I was having the same problem and changing the USB mode from within the camera menu (on the D40 itself) from Mass Storage to MTP/PTP fixed it for me. I had the same issue & fixed it by switching USB mode. Go to menu -> setup menù -> usb -> and select mtp/ptp press okĬonnect usb cable turn on the camera and now start the Camera Control. I tried to find the page again where I found this info but was unable.

With the camera connected to PC use the camera & scanner wizzard to connect to the camera & you can fire remotely & view the image on the PC as it is taken. After spending ALL morning looking for a answer I finally found a way. I was also trying to find a way to take photos and view them instantly on my camera. I found a software called gphoto2 for linux/unix/mac. Is there some other software that will let me shoot from the computer like camera control pro 2 but not from nikon? Tried both of the usb settings when I had the same problem, I can assure you its the lack of a proper USB driver.Ĭhanging the USB settings in the camera worked for me. if that doesn't work try searching your computer for it. Is your usb setting in the camera set to mass storage and not ptp, and do you have the driver for it.

There you go then, thats your reason, dig out the CD or download from Nikon I don't remember installing any software with the camera. go ahead with the install.Ĩ/Hopefully that'll be it, it worked for me. Its a driver problem, this is how I fixed it -Ģ/Look in control panel/system properties/hardware/device/manager.ģ/You should see "imaging devices" open it and you will see "D40"Ħ/If Windows doesn't find driver you may need your original Nikon CD driver disc.ħ/You'll get all the warnings about trusting the driver etc. Wish I could help.so how does the eyefi card work? Sounds like a neat concept if it works correctly. So my computer is still recognizing that the camera is there. BUT, My eyefi card and the camera show up under Windows XP. I tried moving the program dial too.The camera says "Connecting to PC" on my camera, not connected. Any ideas? Nikon has NO help.ĭon't mean to state the obvious, but is the camera turned on? Made sure I am not plugged into a hub and directly into one of the USB slots in the back of my computer. Using windows XP, and a supported D40X and it's saying my camera isn't connected.
